Welcome to the home of The Loony
Scribe, Oscar De Los Santos!
Hello, and thanks for stopping by!
I’ve been a book lover all my life and
I’ve been writing since I was a kid. My interests are many and
scattered across several genres, but my true loves have always been
horror and science fiction, with a dash of mystery tossed in. I
write in all three genres, as well as mainstream.
My non-fiction critical studies have
focused on American literature, science fiction, horror, film,
conspiracy theory, natural science, and paranormal studies. It’s
hard for me to keep away from my many loves.
I hope that all my writing is
entertaining, informative and packs a wallop.
I never worry about including messages
and themes in my fiction. I want to tell a good story, period. The
rest just takes care of itself. Themes and the like are often there
when it’s all said and done, but I believe the writer should always
tackle engaging issues in a stimulating manner. That’s the writer’s
main task: intriguing the reader with good ideas and good writing.
Period.
I wish I could just write stories for a
living. The reality is that most writers have to do something else
on the side in order to eat (and feed their dog). I earned my
Masters and Ph.D. at the Ohio State University. Today I am a
professor of English at Western Connecticut State University, where
I teach modern American literature, science fiction, horror, and
fiction writing workshops. I am also a former chair of the English
Department and co-direct its graduate studies program.
I am a member of the Science Fiction
Research Association and the International Association of the
Fantastic in the Arts. I participate in the organizations’ annual
conferences, delivering critical essays on various SF and horror
topics.
I love baseball and my pet Jack Russell,
Bonita. When I’m not watching the Yanks and the Red Sox go at it
during the regular and post-seasons, I’m reading, writing, teaching
or playing Frisbee with my dog.
Thanks for stopping by my website.
Updates are forthcoming, so drop in again!
Peace,
Oscar
